Makoto Shinkai’s one of my favorite directors, so you should check out some of his work:

• The Place Promised in out Early Days
• 5 Centimeters Per Second (probably my favorite form him)
• Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below

Mamoru Hosoda directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, one of my favorite anime movies

but also check out Summer Wars from him

and his new film The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki looks good

uhm, ghibli? I mean if you haven’t already seen a ghibli movie

they’re all great except for Tales from Earthsea

idk there are a lot of companion movies with some series, like eva or Revolutionary Girl Utena and Fullmetal Alchemist
